Remembering an early start to Winter

Last October we got an early snow on the 28th.  This cold streak late in April with some snow flurries made me remember how we got so much snow so early this winter season and then no snow all winter long, with an early Spring I had out my shorts and was ready to enjoy the sunshine and temps 75 and above!  Well it was a nice thought...this week has been cold and raining, out came all the blankets, warm pants, and sweaters, even had a fire in the wood burner.  I thought that this was the perfect time to break out some photos of our early winter in October and hope that I won't be posting any photos of snow covered tulips

Shohola Falls

I love water.  I love that it can seem so calm but be so deep and dangerous, it can be roaring and powerful and cause so much damage and it's something we take for granted.
There's a local waterfall that I like to go to once in while and walk around and take photos of.  Below are some photos of Shohola Falls  Hope you enjoy them.

After a heavy rain storm and snow melting in the Spring of 210 here's what the falls looked like.

I saw a group of Kayakers go down this falls.  I thought they were crazy but they had so much fun yelling and ridding the roaring river.  This was just when I had gotten my camera and was learning how to use it so I missed my shot at getting them Kayaking down the falls.

I went back again in the summer of 2010 and here are some photos of the falls then, you can see how much they've changed.

Now for my birthday I went back out and visited the falls with my family.  We visited late in the day right before sunset so I was able to play with slow shutter speeds and got some really neat photos of the sun.

Above is a black and white of part of the falls.  I love the movement of the water.  Below is the same part of the falls just from a different angle, and in color.

The above is a black and white of the top part of the falls right below the dam and I just loved the sun here you can see the rays so well and it'.
Here's my daughter looking out at the falls (being frustrated with my husband for holding on to her shirt so she doesn't get too close to the edge of the cliff)  This was our first time taking her to Shohola Falls and she LOVED it.  Such a great way to spend the evening of my birthday :)
Casualties of fishing.  A tree limb hanging over the cliff and out over the water catches stray bobbers, and fishing lures.

This big old tree stand it's ground at the top of the falls.  In heavy rain when the water is high it is it's own island.

I've only hiked one part of the Shohola Falls trails but I found this blogger who tells you about all the other trail options you have when visiting and she has some great photos of the sites you'll see.  I look forward to going on the other trails she talks about the next time I'm there :)

Easter

Happy Easter Everyone.
I hope you all had a good Easter and enjoyed a nice spring break.
Do you put out decorations like you do for other holidays?
The bunny display is from my aunt and uncle's house.  They go crazy with decorations for every holiday and I thought these were too cute!

Here is an old wheel that my neighbor decorated with eggs.

Do you do anything special?

As a child I loved hunting for eggs.  This year I was really happy to be the one hiding them for my daughter.  It was such a joy watching her find them and open them.  I use to get eggs full of candy and sometimes spare change or a dollar, for my daughter since we're trying to be healthier I filled most of her eggs with spare change.  She loved it and had to open each egg she found and yell "money!"

This year time slipped by us and we didn't color eggs as a family, but luckily my Aunt took the task and my daughter spent a day with her coloring eggs (which have mad great egg salads for lunches)

You can't have Easter without some sugar.  I love jelly beans, not to eat but they are so colorful and really make me think Easter anytime I see them.  These were left out on the table and I did really good and only had 1.  I think my little sweet toothed girl stole a handful every time she went by them.

Holidays are meant to be spent with family and friends, and that's how we spend ours every year.  This year we spent it with my neighbors and my mom.  The above photos are of me, my daughter, and my mom, and the one in color with the bunny includes my husband who is also pictured below.

Do you have any crazy traditions??
Almost anytime there's a cake around we have a cake fight, Easter this year was no different as my mom and I got into it.  Latter after I went home to clean up and put my overtired baby to bed the cake fight continued with everyone that stuck around long enough to be a part of it.

Hope you all had a great week I look forward to reading what you do to celebrate Easter and Spring.
